NAD+

NAD+ stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, a naturally occurring coenzyme found in virtually every cell in the body. It plays an essential role in cellular energy production, metabolism, DNA repair, and normal cell function. NAD+ levels can change with age, metabolic health, illness, and cellular stress, making NAD+ an important area of research in metabolism and healthy aging.

How Does It Work?

NAD+ helps cells convert nutrients from food into usable cellular energy.

It is involved in:

• ATP and cellular energy production

• Mitochondrial function

• Glucose and fat metabolism

• DNA repair

• Cellular stress responses

• Sirtuin enzyme activity

NAD+ continually cycles between NAD+ and NADH, allowing it to transfer electrons during the chemical reactions cells use to produce energy.

Potential Benefits:

CELLULAR ENERGY

• ATP production

• Mitochondrial function

• Cellular metabolism

• Energy utilization

HEALTHY AGING

NAD+ is required by enzymes involved in:

• DNA repair

• Cellular stress responses

• Sirtuin activity

• Gene regulation

• Maintaining normal cellular function

Because NAD+ metabolism changes with age, researchers are studying whether supporting NAD+ pathways may influence aspects of healthy aging and cellular resilience.

METABOLIC HEALTH

NAD+ pathways are involved in:

• Glucose metabolism

• Fat metabolism

• Insulin signaling

• Metabolic flexibility

• Mitochondrial health

BRAIN & NERVOUS SYSTEM

The brain has high energy demands, making NAD+ important for:

• Neuronal energy production

• Cellular repair

• Oxidative-stress responses

• Normal nervous-system function

Research continues into NAD+ metabolism and neurological health.

NAD+ vs. NAD+ Precursors

NAD+ can also be produced by the body from compounds such as:

Niacin (Vitamin B3)

Nicotinamide (NAM)

Nicotinamide Riboside (NR)

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN)

These compounds use different metabolic pathways to contribute to the body's NAD+ pool.

Possible Side Effects:

• Nausea

• Headache

• Flushing

• Abdominal discomfort

• Fatigue or lightheadedness

• Injection or infusion-site irritation

Human evidence regarding long-term use of injectable NAD+ remains limited.

Important to Know:

NAD+ itself is essential for normal human biology, but that does not mean supplemental or injectable NAD+ has been proven to produce anti-aging, weight-loss, athletic-performance, or energy-enhancing effects.

Research into NAD+ metabolism is extensive, but clinical evidence supporting many marketed benefits of administered NAD+ remains limited.
